La Cantera Arts Conservatory and Event Center, Home of Flamenco Fever, is Open for Business

DALLAS, TX - On November 14th, the North Texas LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce celebrated the opening of La Cantera Arts Conservatory & Event Center, with a ribbon cutting. This new performing arts center brings home two of the nation’s most talented groups, Ida Y Vuelta and Flamenco Fever. Headquartered in Dallas with three area dance studios, Flamenco Fever is a 501c3 non-profit that recently joined the North Texas LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce.  Executive Director Julia Alcantara commended the Chamber for aiding them in achieving their mission to create a sustainable ‘flamenco community’ through educational & performance initiatives, so that the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex can cultivate the same quality flamenco as enjoyed in other cities in the nation & around the world.

Flamenco Fever offers dance and music (guitar, percussion) classes year-round to all ages and skill levels across the Dallas Fort Worth area. Now, they offer dance and music classes at La Cantera in Oak Cliff. The organization is passionate about bringing performances and education to the community and making flamenco more accessible to a diverse audience.

Flamenco Fever is led by Julia Alcantara, who for 18 years served as its Artistic and Executive Director. Also in attendance at the ribbon cutting was Flamenco Fevers Technical Director and Star Performer Charles Johnson. Board Community Relations Chair, Mark Ellis lamented his appreciation for the Chamber becoming such a powerful force and Flamenco Fevers extremely successful year capped off with the recent TX Flamenco Fest in October. Now, they have their sites set on promoting La Cantera Arts as an event space as well as the home of Flamenco Fever.

La Cantera Arts is a flexible space to host:

  • Holiday parties
  • Dance classes
  • Performances
  • Quinceañera
  • Business events

“We want to congratulate Julia, Mark, and the Flamenco Fever team on their success, and wish them the best as they open this new chapter with a new home at La Cantera Arts,” said Tony Vedda, President & CEO of the North Texas LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce. “Their passion and leadership create limitless potential for Flamenco Fever and La Cantera.”

About Flamenco Fever:

Flamenco Fever is dedicated to fostering a vibrant flamenco community in Dallas through exceptional educational activities and public performances. Their mission is to ensure that residents of high-need neighborhoods have the opportunity to learn about, participate in, and enjoy this vital legacy of Latinx art and culture.

Recognizing the prohibitive costs of flamenco production, which often restricts access to exclusive theaters, Flamenco Fever addressed these challenges by establishing the LaCantera Arts Conservatory. This new space unites their dance and performance companies under one roof for the first time, making flamenco more accessible.

With the finalization of their Spring residency program, 2025 promises to be another outstanding year. Flamenco Fever will continue to make their programming accessible to everyone, offering nearly 100 shows annually and providing subsidized classes and workshops.

About North Texas LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce:

Since 2005, the North Texas LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce has been the only organization advocating at the crossroads of business and equality. Every day, the Chamber and its members work to achieve equality through business.
